Small Group Q&A
Why Join a Small Group?
  • You will find answers to the needs in your life through group prayer.
  • You will meet other believers in the church and get to know them better.
  • You can grow in your understanding of the Bible and God’s will for your life.
  • You will find a place to deal positively with your problems.
  • You can find support and encouragement during difficult times.
  • You will be able to exercise your spiritual gifts to help other people.
  • You can experience authentic relationships with other members of God’s family.
  • You can find direction about how to grow as a believer.
  • You can get a boost of power and confidence to live out your Christian life.
What is a Small Group?
  • A small group is a group of 8-12 people who meet regularly to enjoy authentic Christian fellowship and pursue spiritual growth together.
What Are We Going to Be Doing in the Small Group?
  • While there are a few different formats, the majority of groups start with a time of casual fellowship, then focus on Bible study, and finish with prayer.
How Much of My Time is this Going to Take?
  • Small groups usually meet weekly for two hours.
Where and When Do They Meet?
  • Groups can meet on any day of the week, but most take place on a weeknight in people’s homes throughout the area.
Who Else is Going to be in the Group?
  • It depends on the focus of the group, but most groups consist of a mix of different people (varying ages, singles and couples, etc.).
What is the Required Commitment?
  • You must be willing to commit to three-month blocks of time (quarterly). If you feel you’d like to try another group or take a break at the end of the quarter you’re free to do so.
Am I Going to Have to Talk or Pray, or Can I Just Sit and Listen?
  • Small groups are like a family – sometimes you talk and sometimes you listen. No one is forced to talk or pray. Everyone moves at a different pace, and you are allowed to go at yours.
How Much Do I Have to Know About the Bible to be in a Small Group?
  • Nothing! Small groups are about learning the Bible, not debating it or being tested on it. You are welcome no matter where you are in your knowledge of God’s Word.
