Sermon Notes

This week Pastor Deric continues the series The New Birth with a sermon entitled The New You (Part 2) focussing on 2 Corinthians 5: 14-21
2 Corinthians 5: 14-21

ICEBREAKER: What has been one of the greatest adventures you have ever experienced?
1. Why do you think love is at the core of the gospel [2 Corinthians 5:14]? What practical difference does this make?
2. How does Paul contrast the “old you” with the “new you” in 2 Corinthians 5:15? How do you live this out in the context of our self-centred culture?
3. In your experience of the new birth, what has passed away and what has become new for you [2 Corinthians 5:16-17]?
4. What is involved in reconciliation [2 Corinthians 5:18-19]? Why is reconciliation important and how does it work?
5. What is the role of an ambassador? How does this calling influence your sharing of the gospel [2 Corinthians 5:20]?
6. How would you use the ideas presented in 2 Corinthians 5:21 to clearly communicate the good news of salvation?
7. What did you find helpful or challenging about this Sunday’s message?

“God did not wait for a change of heart on our part. He made the first move. Indeed, He did more than that. He did all that was necessary to secure our reconciliation, including our change of heart. Even though He is the One offended by our sin, He is the One who makes amends to Himself through the death of Christ.” (Jerry Bridges)
