Sermon Notes

This week Pastor Deric preached a sermon entitled The more excellent way focussing on 1 Corinthians 13:4-8

1 Corinthians 13:4-8
ICEBREAKER: What day of your life would you most like to relive? Why?
1. In 1 Cor. 12:31 Paul segues stating that he will show that the exercise of love is better than exercising spiritual gifts. Why is this so?
2. What do you think Paul meant when he said, “love never ends”? (v.8)
3. How do you think genuine love is produced in the life of a believer? (see 1 John 4:19) Where else is this stated in chapter 4?
4. In 1 Cor. 13:1-3 Paul makes some very challenging statements about the value of actions without love. How does this challenge your perception of good works?
5. Read Romans 13:8-10 and 1 Peter 4:8. In what ways are these verses complimentary?
6. What are some practical things you can do this week to authentically love people more?
7. What did you find helpful or challenging about the message?

“In the New Testament, love is more of a verb than a noun. It has more to do with acting than with feeling. The call to love is not so much a call to a certain state of feeling as it is to a quality of action.” – RC Sproul
