Sermon Notes

Pastor Deric continues his current series “Your 100 Day Prayer” with a sermon entitled “The Lord is Near!” from Philippians 4:4-7.
Philippians 4:4-7
Ice Breaker: There’s something crucial about remaining calm in the midst of a ‘storm.’ I’m not always good at it, but it makes a very positive difference in the outcome.
How are you able to remain grounded and steady in the midst of trials?
1. These were not easy times for Paul (Acts 16:19-24) and for the church (1:29-30) at Philippi. What is it that makes the kind of joy Paul is speaking about, possible in difficult times? (v.7) (also see James 1:2-5)
2. What does ‘reasonableness’ have to do with joy? (v.5)
3. In the midst of difficult times (1:28; 3:1; 4:1), what would be the cure for anxiousness? (v.6)
4. As we consider the three part description of Paul’s call for prayer in verse 6, how would you construct your prayer to God?
5. How would you describe the peace Paul is talking about? (v.7) (Col. 3:15)
6. How would you define Christian joy?
“Joy is the infallible sign of the presence of God.”- Pierre Teilhard de Chardin
