Sermon Notes

This week Pastor Deric continues our Christmas series Hope Arriving with a sermon entitled “The Biblical Story of Immanuel (God With Us)”

Matthew 1:21-23
Ice Breaker: Name one person that is not a family member that has had the greatest influence in your life. Why?

1. Immanuel means “God with us”. Find 3 other places in the New Testament and 3 places in the Old Testament illustrating God dwelling with his people.
2. Read Romans 5:1. How does this verse parallel with Luke 2:14?
3. What are the divine attributes that Mary ascribes to God in her song of praise (Luke 1:46-55)? What does this reveal about her relationship with Him?
4. What can you do to remember the significance of Christmas in your life each day?
5. Jesus was always intentional in fulfilling His purpose in coming into the world. If we live with intentionality toward fulfilling His calling on our lives, how might our lives look differently?

6. What did you find helpful or challenging about the message?

“‘For unto you is born this day in the City of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.’ That’s what Christmas is all about Charlie Brown.” – Linus
