Sermon Notes

This week our guest speaker is Pastor Dan Shurr, Director of Fellowship Aid and International Relief (FAIR). His message is from Micah 6:8 and Isaiah 58:6-12 entitled “Living the Great Requirement.“

Micah 6:8; Isaiah 58:6-12
Ice Breaker: What about the needy around the world, in our own country (Ft. Mac) or even in our own City of Mississauga? Do the needs tug at your heart? Do you feel helpless to do any good and throw up your hands in frustration?

To date, how have you responded to the less fortunate?

1. What does Micah 6:8 have to say about whose responsibility it is to meet the needs of the poor? (also see Mt 23:23) Why is that so?

2. How does Micah’s sentiment here suggest we are to meet those needs?

3. Isaiah makes strong statements in 58:6-7. How would you describe the believer’s responsibility according to these verses? How does this compare to Micah 6:8? (also see James 1:27)

4. What is God’s response toward the believer who obeys the words of the prophet? (vv.8-9a)

5. Isaiah shares additional responsibilities and rewards for those who wish to obey the Lord in verses 9b to 12. What additional areas of the life of a believer are impacted by obedience to God in these verses? (also see: Eph 5:13-14)

6. If it was your decision to make, how would you guide our church regarding our responsibility to alleviate suffering in the world?

“Never stop lifting your hands up in praise for each and every gift that falls from heaven’s hands.” (James 1:17) – Douglas O’Donnell
