Sermon Notes

This week Pastor Max continues our series The Sacred Image with a sermon in Isaiah 1:16-18 entitled “God of Justice”

Questions:
Isaiah 1:16-18
Ice Breaker: Think back to a time when you were wronged by someone. How did you respond to that incident? Was it a good or bad way of handling it?
1. How would you define justice in your own words?
2. Is there such a thing as universal morality? If so, where is the standard for universal morality to be found?
3. Find and share three other verses from the Old Testament that illustrate God as the vindicator (provider of justice) of the oppressed?
4. In what way does justice point to the reality of God’s truth?
5. In verse 16 God calls the people to stop sinning, and in verse 17 calls the people to seek justice. Why is seeking justice and not sinning so closely linked?

6. How can we be champions of God’s justice in our daily lives?

“I have always found that mercy bears richer fruits than justice.” – Abraham Lincoln
