Sermon Notes

Pastor Deric continues our current series “Your 100 Day Prayer” with a sermon entitled “God in our Catastrophes” from Psalm 46.

Questions:
Psalm 46
Ice Breaker: When it comes to the unexpected trouble in your life, do you ‘lose it’ because you are a bit of a control freak, or do you generally remain calm and ‘chill’ in the midst of it?

1. From the first 6 verses of Psalm 46 what are some of the events in life that can cause us to be vulnerable? (vv.1-6)

2. Find examples in the passage of blessings or opportunities we receive in the midst of suffering (see Deut. 4:7; Jer. 5:22)

3. Describe ways we can see evidence of God’s supremacy in our struggles.

4. What is the image of God that the psalmist leave you with? (vv.4-7) (see Matt. 28:20)

5. How is it possible to have peace at times like these? (vv.8-11) (see Is. 2:11)

“Much of our difficulty stems from our unwillingness to take God as He is and adjust ourselves accordingly.” – A.W. Tozer
