Armen accepted the Lord in 1990. Prior to coming to faith, he was a singer. He joined the choir of a Presbyterian church in Bagdad which was the only evangelical church in the city. He ended up feeling a call to ministry and served 17 years in Youth Ministry there. In 2007, he began serving in church planting in Duhok, with a passion for helping churches to have vibrant and skillful worship. He assembled and trained worship teams, teaching both spiritual and technical components. He also taught leadership and was a trainer in the Evangelism Explosion curriculum. Under persecution for his faith, Armen left Iraq and went to Beirut where he resumed church planting with a focus on evangelism and discipleship. In his first church God grew the congregation to over 100. His goal over the 4 years, prior to coming to Canada, was to reach 1,000 Arabic-speaking people through his work – and God has done it! He started another ministry on Monday nights which saw more than 200 put their faith is Jesus, and who he has discipled and are now leaders in their churches today. Armen is currently nurturing an Arabic Community here at City Centre with a Bible Study at 1pm every Sunday and other pastoral and care ministry for Arabic-speaking people in our region. Armen’s wife Zina is currently studying English and is supporting Armen in the ongoing ministry. Their son Samoeel is 13 years old and loves sports, especially soccer and basketball.

Children’s Ministries Director

Heidi grew up in a small Southern Ontario farming town with parents who loved and feared the Lord.  She accepted Christ as a child and developed early habits of worship, serving and fellowship at church, while learning to have God as the Director of her life. At a young age God gave her a desire to become a teacher, but it wasn’t until later that she began to sense He might want her to use her gifts in a ministry position.

Heidi pursued her vocational call earning a Bachelor of Arts from Wilfred Laurier University and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Ottawa, along with a certificate in Special Education from Nipissing University.  She has taught in various capacities in both public and private schools. God also provided her with the opportunity to work part-time for her home church in Ottawa as an Early Childhood Coordinator which further led her to feel that God may one day open the door to work full-time in Children’s Ministries.

With a passion for curriculum that is God-centred and hands-on, Heidi is a skilled organizer who also loves to share her knowledge and experiences through mentorship.  Her vision for all children’s programming is that it be used to disciple each child and strengthen their understanding of who God is, while helping them to grow in their relationship with Him. She is married to Steve, and has three daughters, Amanda, Emma and Allie.
