Everlasting Father-Pastor Deric
This week Pastor Deric continues his Christmas series Before Bethlehem in Isaiah 9:6-7 with a sermon entitled “Everlasting Father”

Questions
Ice breaker: Who is the one person in your life you have learned that you can count on in any and all circumstances?

1. Just as with the previous weeks in our study of Is. 9:6, we need to look at helpful O.T. prophesy and the N.T. scriptures. The interpretation and meaning of these passages will help us to understand the description of the Messiah as “Everlasting Father." Listing passages you consulted, how do you best understand this descriptor of the Messiah?
2. How do the characteristics of a ‘good Father’ perfectly fit Jesus in this instance?
3. Just as there are critical pieces in every design, how does Jesus fit into the puzzle of ‘time?'
4. Where can we find some N.T. passages that point to Jesus as the ‘Father of eternity’?
5. What new concepts of Jesus as Messiah have you gained from this passage and the sermon this week?

“The Gospel is the most inclusive exclusive truth in the world.”- Andy Bannister

    Mighty God-Pastor Deric

This week Pastor Deric continues his Christmas series Before Bethlehem in Isaiah 9:6 with a sermon entitled “Mighty God.”

    Questions
Ice Breaker: Who would be your favourite ‘hero’ and why does that individual resonate with you?

    1. We’ve learned from the last two weeks that you can’t interpret the Christmas story in all of its glory without seeing it through the lens of Biblical prophecy. Do you have a favourite OT prophecy about the identity and ministry of Jesus? Explain.
    2. How does the term “Mighty God” reveal Jesus as one with the LORD GOD of the OT? How would the Jews have interpreted this title?
    3. Why is Jesus' incarnation so important to us?
    4. Read the statement of Jesus in Matthew 28:18-20 and discuss the connection between the royal name “Mighty God” and His claim of having “all power or authority.”
    5. Can you name NT passages that teach and/or illustrate that Jesus is the “mighty God?"
    6. Name and discuss a few of the ways that we learned in the sermon, that Jesus exemplifies the “might” of a hero.
